Love Monet’s Garden
Monet’s famous water lily pictures convey some of the magic of the garden which the great painter owned: the bold, wild growth of grasses and bushes on the banks, the reeds blowing gently in the breeze and the play of light on water.
You can still find such idyllic spots today. You might have to look a bit harder for them but they are there and when you do find them they are even more enchanting, making you want to stay and lose yourself in their picturesque beauty.
If you want to arrange something special, then choose such an idyllic setting for a dinner for two or four, pack up everything you will need and invite your guests to dine with you on the shores of the lake.
An old lace tablecloth, well suited to this scene, will add a romantic touch. It is laid over a tablecloth in a solid colour, which matches the colour of the crockery.
The combination of colours h. the surroundings, green and blue, is picked up in the table. A steel-blue dinner service is used, and blue coloured glasses. They combine with the green of the fruit and grasses which are placed on the table.
If you have an etagere, this can be used as a fruit bowl, giving the whole table setting a little height. The centre of the etagere is surrounded by leaves picked from the shores of the lake.
You should also use plants from the shore for the remaining floral decorations. In this case a few long stems of pampas grass are laid across the table. On the one hand this looks pretty, and on the other you have the advantage that you don’t have to bring along a vase.
Many shore-line scenes would be incomplete without fishermen, who are already out on the banks early in the morning, whatever the weather, staring into the still water. If the sight of them inspires you, you can easily express this in the table decorations. Tie little fish hooks or wooden fish to the napkins.
Tip:
Of course, for this al-fresco dinner you must make sure that you can carry everything you need and stow it away in your car. For this reason you need folding garden furniture, and the meal can be restricted to a few delicious morsels which can be prepared well in advance, are easily packed away and can be arranged attractively on site. The only thing you shouldn’t stint on is the decorative materials. It will definitely be worth transporting them.
Monet can give you a hand with the invitation cards as well. You can buy his water lily paintings as postcards. Use these cards as your invitationsand give your guests a taste of what is to come.
