Easter break Table Decoration— ringing in the new every year
For many people a country walk at Easter is a good old tradition. It gets you out into the country and you are able to enjoy the fact that spring has arrived to the full. Also, Easter is a traditional time for visiting; relatives or friends come to stay for a couple of days for a short holiday with you, or the children are back home again. If you want to surprise your guests, then maybe this idea will appeal to you — round off your Easter walk with a rustic, country Easter celebration.
What to do:
Create a mossy dell on your table! A moss arrangement stands in the centre, which you can design with the help of the whole family. All of you can also bring together the other components and prepare them.
Fresh moss serves here as the background for eggs, flowers and terracotta pots. You will find moss in woods, or maybe even in your garden, or you can buy it throughout the year from your florist or garden centre. In order to protect the wooden surface of the table, you can place cling film underneath.
Dot small spring flowers — such as grape hyacinths, narcissii and daisies — and twigs which you have previously stuck into oasis (which can also be bought from your florist) across the moss. It looks pretty if the delicate flower stalks are “growing” or “tumbling” out of one or more pots.
Place the terracotta pots in the moss, and then fill them with coloured eggsor flowers.
Tip:
For preference, eggs which have been coloured with natural dyes are best for these natural table decorations. You can obtain all the colours you need from natural products such as herbs, bark and rind. Simply boil the eggs with one of the herbs or other products, and — depending on the depth of colour in the water — leave the egg in the dye until you get the shade you want. Repeat this process until you have a collection of eggs in graduated shades of colour. You can also buy natural dyes from chemists and health food shops, and they will be able to give you further advice.
Depending on the size of the table, and personal taste, other Easter decorations such as quails’ eggs, little Easter bunnies or painted Easter eggs can be incorporated into the decorations.
