Love and Romance Wedding Anniversary Celebration Symbols

To celebrate a wedding anniversary in style it is a fun idea to take as the theme the symbol that represents the particular number of years a couple has been married. The first few are a bit of a joke but as the number of years of marriage increases so the anniversary symbol becomes more valuable and romantic. They are:

The anniversaries that are most commonly celebrated by a gathering of family and friends are twenty-five years (silver) and fifty years (gold).

A Formal Wedding Anniversary Dinner

If the anniversary is to be celebrated by a formal wedding dinner the table or tables should be covered with white damask or white lace and laid with the very best china and cutlery. Spend some time on planning the flower arrangements as these should be very special. For a silver wedding choose white flowers — lilies, white roses, marguerite daisies, white poppies and silver foliage. If the arrangement includes candles, choose long delicate white tapers or silver candles. Choose silver vases or rose bowls for flower arrangements and trail furls of delicate silver ribbon in amongst the flowers, around the candlesticks or over the sides of the vase. For a gold wedding choose yellow and white flowers — not dull yellows but light, bright colours, such as daffodils, narcissi, or pale tea-roses — and ivy foliage with yellow berries. If possible use gold candlesticks’ or choose gold candles arranged with the flowers, and use golden trailing ribbons to trim the arrangement. Grasses, twigs or foliage can be sprayed with a silver or gold spray paint to form the background of the flower arrangement, or choose large leaved foliage, such as magnolia or camelia and add a touch of silver or gold spray paint to their edges.

You might like to employ extra help for the cooking and serving. As it is such a special occasion it is very much better if all the family and friends celebrating can relax and leave the work to someone else. If you are going to leave all the serving to helpers, brief them thoroughly beforehand. Go through the details of each course, how it is to be served and garnished, which wines are to be served with each course, whether there are to be any speeches or toasts and, if so, when (as this will affect the final preparation and presentation of any courses or anniversary cake that are to follow).

If champagne is to be poured, decide when, and make sure that everybody has a glass before toasts are made.

If you don’t have any help, plan the meal very carefully so that there is an absolute minimum of work to be done between courses. Prepare as much as you can in advance, and make a very careful work plan so that everything runs smoothly on the day.
